Week 7 Lecture

I really liked the background image from the 8th slide of Russell's lecture last week, which showcased Erica Kruger's work regarding shadows that she completed duing her final year of her master's degree (? correct me if I'm wrong about that). This image depicts a square which has been shaded in quite heavily, with parallel lines being produced from the bottom and right hand edges of the square in a diagonal direction towards the bottom right of the slide. I think I like this image because it is similar to some of the shading that I have been using for my axonometric drawings of the rectangles, with long sets of parallel lines that are the same for faces that are oriented the same direction. I think that I could improve my work by becoming more careful with my drawings and trying to make them as neat and precise as possible, as Erika has clearly done with this work, and also by using a wider range of media in my works.

This is a combination of Stephen Hawking's and Nicole Kuepper's quotes about their work. I have tried to find the main ideas of both, and using the common link of science tried to combine them into one fluid statement.

This week's block. I still can't figure out the lighting of the space, and the large shadow still remains. Could anyone help?

Blocks In Crysis


This is a screenshot from crysis with my favourite set of 5 rectangles from the
studio last week which I composed in sketchup. As you can probably see, I tried
to add some lighting to show the shadows and the form of the shapes, but I
could not get rid of the huge rectangular shadow that it seems like I am
producing. If I zoomed in further on the block it would become
too dark and gloomy. Does anyone know a better way of
producing shadows and light effects?
